Apricots on Red
(24" x 24", oil on canvas)
The same canister as last week, without the lid and sitting on a glorious red cloth. This is one of my favorite pieces having all the elements I so love to paint. Although, truthfully, by next month I will undoubtedly have a new favourite.
This painting is available at Gallery Gevik, Toronto, Ontario, http://www.gevik.com. SOLD.

Vintage Kitchen
(Oil on canvas 28" x 22")
I picked up this tin canister at a local flea market a few weeks ago and I haven't stopped painting it since! I simply love its personality on the canvas. True, at first glance it is rather plain, but a second look reveals many beautiful details to explore. For instance, the wire handle is slightly bent out of shape, rusted in parts, and casts a beautiful shadow. The slight blue stripe at top and bottom adds a nice color note. The top is quite complex when compared to the base, and the white(ish) surface is perfect for reflecting local color.

Fruit Squares
(12" x 12" each, oil on canvas)
Every November I start to get requests for smaller pieces. Most galleries dedicate the month of December to a "small works" show, and this year I hope to be ready with a series of 12" squares (yup, I have to work that far in advance to allow the work to dry fully).
Moving to this size was not easy for me, but now that I've got the hang of it I am truly enjoying these small formats. Much like eating peanuts, they are addictive, one leading to the next. And, because they take up so little room in my studio, I can have a few going at the same time. This size also looks spectacular framed; with a wide moulding they become almost jewel-like.

Serenity with Shell
(24" x 18" Oil on canvas)
This week I'm presenting another piece building on my serenity theme. Here, a pared down composition of three objects evokes a contemplative mood, leaving the viewer plenty of room to unwind.
And...Thanks to all of you who responded so positively to this theme. It means a great deal to me to know that my work strikes a cord with you and it allows me to continue with confidence.
