Cast Iron II
(24" x 24", oil on canvas)
This past summer I picked up some new great props to add to my collection, such as this cast iron pot.
At first glance its finish is dull and lacking in color, but back home in my studio under lights it comes alive. The rough uneven edges are a joy to paint particularly when juxtaposed with the fragile skin of the tomato. A close look at the cast iron reveals many subtle colors and shifting tones, and the linear handle is a great foil for the bulk of the pot.
